The Moccamaster is one of the most iconic pieces of coffee equipment on the market. The Technivorm brewer has stayed relatively unchanged since it first came on the scene in 1969, selling over 10 million in the process. Even still—or perhaps therefore—it remains one of the most recognizable silhouettes in coffee. And now Technivorm is expanding the Moccamaster line with the addition of a brand-new burr grinder, the KM5, and it’s currently on pre-sale.

This is not Technivorm’s first coffee grinder. That distinction goes to the KM1, which actually predates the Moccamaster coffee brewer by five years. The KM5 represents the fifth generation of grinders by the Dutch brand, and it features many of the modern accoutrements one would expect to find in a specialty coffee grinder.

At the heart of the grinder, which keeps a similar aesthetic sensibility as the coffee brewer, are 50mm stainless steel flat burrs, powered by a “direct drive motor” and controlled by stepless grind size adjustments. The hopper for the brewed coffee-centric grinder is able to contain around nine ounces, with the glass grounds container able to hold around 100g—dispensed from a “static-reducing” chute.

Per the website, the KM5 is “One of the few grinders certified by the European Coffee Brewing Centre,” and “the quality and uniformity of the grind is guaranteed for perfect extraction.”

The KM5 is set to retail for $339 and comes in polished silver, matte black, and matte white. For more information, visit the Moccamaster official website.
